Competec Group acquires Schoch Vögtli

Winterthur/Mägenwil, 2 February 2022 – The Mägenwil-based commercial group Competec (2021 revenue: CHF 1.12 billion, 1,094 employees) is acquiring 100 percent of the stock in Schoch Vögtli AG (2021 revenue: CHF 30 million, 90 employees). Competec is taking on all employees of the business supply provider, which has locations in Winterthur, Aarburg and Basel.

Competec has already established a high level of internal product range and sales competencies in the area of office and business supplies in recent years. Since 2009, the Group has concentrated its sales activities for commercial and institutional customers in a dedicated department: BRACK.CH Business. By acquiring the long-standing company Schoch Vögtli, whose history dates back to 1882, Competec is reinforcing its B2B business area. “We are very happy to welcome the Schoch Vögtli team into the Competec family. The combination of BRACK.CH Business with the strengths of Schoch Vögtli will give an extra boost to our growth strategy for the business customer segment,” said Martin Lorenz, CEO of the Competec Group. Both parties agreed not to disclose the sale price.

Contact partners will not be changed

Competec is taking on all 90 employees. For customers of Schoch Vögtli AG, all terms, delivery conditions and contact partners will remain unchanged. Schoch Vögtli will also continue to conduct most deliveries with its own fleet of delivery vehicles. Competec plans to integrate the Schoch Vögtli warehouse into its logistics centre in Willisau within the next few months. Thomas Schoch, CEO and owner of Schoch Vögtli AG, will be stepping down. Markus Bossart, currently Head of Sales at Schoch Vögtli AG, will take over the operational management of Schoch Vögtli during the integration phase. Thomas Schoch is accompanying the transition in an advisory role and simultaneously joining the Competec Group Board of Directors.

Long-term outlook

Due to consolidation pressure in the industry and major upcoming investments, Thomas Schoch decided to arrange the company succession at an early stage: “For a medium-sized provider in a sector dominated by global conglomerates, the long-term prospects would require great effort and large investments in product ranges, logistics and IT. The Competec Group has the size and the strength to offer a long-term perspective and further expand the business area – for both the employees and the customers of Schoch Vögtli AG,” said Thomas Schoch. He refers to Competec as his ideal partner for the company succession and sees the two privately owned Swiss companies as connected by shared values such as a strong customer orientation.
